Phos 1 is a poppy, portable camera featuring interchangeable lenses and the ability to take selfie images easily was the product of a research report aimed at finding what would be the best hiking camera with features most desired by casual and experienced hikers alike.

User data was first compiled in a research report in relation to camera use whilst hiking which informed design parameters. Data collection techniques included unstructured and semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, digital group interviews, observations and checklists.

From the research, a detailed image of the user group emerged. The general age was found to be from 20‐60 (86.9%), with the largest single group being those between 20 and 30 (27.5%). The camera interface, both physical and digital, were found to be favoured towards ease of usability and speed of use, with manual camera functions that were easily accessible. Hiking duration was commonly over 6 hours, dictating the need for a large battery with the ability to be replaceable. Weather and shock resistance were a necessity, with a compact form factor also being highly sought after.
