In this original interpretation of the area, the elements which most represent the town were chosen. Starting from the top of the legend, the state highway was incorporated as it changed the nature of town. This occurred both in terms of transportation and the layout of the urban fabric which follows the contours, which dictated the location of the built environment (on the flattest plains). Water transportation was deemed invaluable to the economy and communities (all over Lake Maggiore, not only the Verbania municipality). Public buildings were found to be important due their crucial role in the legibility and function of the town, as seen by the hospital, and the Ministry of Justice as a form of historical remnant. The landmarks consist of churches, which ground themselves as the oldest buildings in the area, the earliest dating back to circa 1150. The green space provided is also key to the area, with the botanical gardens and boulevards along the lake's edge being the most notable examples. The dense urban grain of the original section of the town is also added as a scale to determine how much the province has grown.
