The new Fourth Company Fire Station for Punta Arenas is programmed for efficient response to community dangers and to reinvigorate the deteriorating historical zone, which is at present especially lacking in community space. Architecturally articulated to mitigate climatic dangers, whilst taking advantage of the extreme weather characteristics of the city, the resulting form is contextually responsive and unique.

The civic space is an organic form barnacled onto the side of the station along the Northern corner of the site. Curved elements are used extensively to create a distinctly different space compared to the strictly ordered and controlled fire station adjacent. The form of the design is derived from windblown rock and ice, reflecting the isolation and extreme weather of the region.
